A Tribute to the McDu

January 22, 2002 to October 1, 2012

Adopted May 22, 2004

McDu was my name from "The Outlander" books fame,

Over the years people did question the origin of my name.

Where did it come from and what did it mean?

It's Gaelic, mom answered and of Scotland she dreamed.

I was a big gangly creature of all white and some tan,

Where ever we went folks stared at me as they can.

To the pet store we went more often than not,

With me sporing a new outfit and a new hat on top!

In eight short years I've proudly worn costumes,

Knowing if I didn't I'd be really boo-hooed!

And so the years passed, gorwing in praise and in statue,

The attention I got due to my grand Regal nature.

God looked out for me throughout my short life,

As I ended up in the most blessed home without any strife.

I even made it through Doggie School numbered "101",

Even not being thrown out before school was even done!

I've been through a lot in these shortened eight years,

And I know that my mom will be a long time shedding tears.

Droplets of tears of sadness, loss, grief and pain,

But she knows I'm with God and will forever remain.

Mom gives God the Praise for my life from above,

My never wavering gift to everyone was unconditional love.

But the Lord called me Home, and to answer His Call,

Is the Eternal Life we all Hope for, beyond anything at all.

October 1, 2000 - Retired K.C.S.D.

Last Notation & "Why":  I lost Du in three short weeks to osteo (bone cancer).  He'd never been sick a day in his life.

TUXEDO

  4/2002 - 8/2012

Tuxedo was a very special cat for being a homeless critter.  He was named Tuxedo because he looked like he was wearing one.  He had a little black spot on his nose, a fluffy tail and thought to be part Maine Coon.

In Auguust of 2002, I had friends Margie and Alex down from Manistee.  My other half, Dennis and Alex decided to walk over to Dennis' House, ten blocks away.  On their way back, a little black and white kitten came out of no where, and started following them.  They tried, without success to shoo him away, to no avail.  When they walked up my driveway, Dennis said, "He followed us home.  Can we keep him", and laughed because I already had two cats.  I took one look at him and knew I was in trouble.  I protested loudly about I couldn't have anyother cat, but knew I couldn't let him go.

We tried unsuccessfully, to find his owner.  We had to give him a flea bath, which he didn't care for, because he had so many fleas they practically carried him.  We took him to a vet for a checkout and surgery.  He became a very important part of my life and I believe he was sent to us, as his story continues, it will be explained.

In December of 2002, my 36 year old son had an accident with closed head injuries.  He was in a coma for 10 weeks.  At one point he was given a 10% chance to live.  Every time we came home from the hospital, the only thing that would lift our spirits, was Tuxedo.

We gave him the best years he could ever have.  He didn't know he was a cat.  He fetched, came when he was called, was leash trained and would spend hours outside at our trailer on a rope.  He loved any place he was.  Everyone that met him couldn't believe how much personality he had.  He was spoiled but not a brat.  He had to be where ever I was, no matter what I was doing, I would turn around and there he was on a comfortable spot waiting for me to finish.

He died unexpectedly.  He was only ten years old, in perfect health and active and lively less than 24 hours earlier.

He took part of my heart with him.  I will save another cat, but none will be able to replace Tuxedo.  He kept me going.

Lucy Bear

4/9/2007-5/4/2012

The day I went to pick up my boxer pup I had no intentions on bringing home a girl. She picked me. Following me around whining because she wanted to be picked up. I couldn't resist her. She was the perfect fit to my family that consisted of me and my french bulldog Riley. From the moment I walked through the door with her it just worked. Riley and Lucy had the perfect brother sister relationship. They went everywhere together and experienced life together.

The only way to describe my Lucy Bear is loving. She never met a person or animal that she didn't love. She never held back how she felt about anyone either, giving kisses freely to everyone. There wasn't one day of her 5 year life that she wasn't following me from room to room. She frequently would check on me when I was in the shower or closet just a little too long. She always kept a close eye on our whole family. She was a very loyal dog, but less like a dog and more like a person. She was a happy girl always giving us the boxer wiggle. No matter if I was gone for 5 minutes or 5 hours she was always so ecstatic to see me. She was the one to see me off in the morning for work and would be the first to greet me when I returned. I always felt as though she was my biggest fan. She never went a day without giving the most love she could.

Lucy's favorite thing was going for walks and running through the field at my parent's house. She also loved going for rides in the car, going out on the boat, and she also was a great swimmer. She never showed any fear in the water. Where ever there was water she would be the first one in. She always was happy as long as she was with someone. She never liked to be alone.

Lucy was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy two weeks after her fifth birthday. With no symptoms until then it was a total devastation to the family. Little did we know that she would be gone two weeks after the diagnosis.

Riley misses your companionship. He still turns to look for you when he goes outside and checks the bedroom to see if your in there on your bed. He lays next to your bed frequently as though he is waiting for you to just appear. I can tell he misses you beyond measure.

Our lives will be forever touched by you Lucy. There will be no replacement to you as you hold a huge part of my heart. I still feel you here with me and I know that some day I will see your sweet face again. Until then my life will not be as complete without you here by my side. I love you my sweet girl!
